Gold opens near $4,400 an ounce after weaker jobs data
Gold December futures opened unchanged at $4,400 per troy ounce, then slipped to $4,391.5 by 8:22 a.m. ET as traders adjusted expectations for a Fed rate increase.
Gold prices rose to their highest opening level since early June after a disappointing U.S. employment report on Friday led many analysts to scale back expectations for a Fed rate increase next month, according to Yahoo Finance.
On Monday, August 10, 2026, December gold futures (GC=F) opened at $4,400 per troy ounce, flat versus Friday’s closing price. By 8:22 a.m. ET, the contract edged down to $4,391.50.
Yahoo Finance reports that market participants are also looking ahead to two inflation reports later this week, with observers expecting continued price pressures for Americans. The market focus is whether the data will shift the path of rate-hike expectations.
