Microsoft adds about $450 billion in value after upbeat Azure guidance
Microsoft shares rose 15.5% to $451.10 after its fiscal fourth-quarter results, even though the stock was already down more than 18% for the year.
Microsoft boosted its market value by about $450 billion in a single day, after the company reported fiscal fourth-quarter results and offered guidance for Azure, its cloud computing platform, according to an analysis published by Yahoo Finance.
Shares finished the session up 15.5% at $451.10 following the results, which included 18% revenue growth and first-quarter Azure growth guidance of about 45% in constant currency. The jump came as Microsoft was already in a drawdown, with the stock down more than 18% for the year at the time of the report.
Even after the record day, the article notes Microsoft remained about 12% below its 52-week high of $553.72. As of the analysis writing, the stock had added about another 8% since the record close, around $487.
Yahoo Finance also compared Microsoft’s move with other outsized one-day market value gains since February 2022, citing examples including Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, and Nvidia. The analysis highlights that outcomes after such record days have varied, with some stocks giving back portions of the gains over the following months as market conditions shifted.
