SEC to hold meeting on tailored crypto investment contract regime
The agency is preparing initiatives this week, alongside a stalled Clarity Act that is now expected to face a September vote.
Pro-crypto regulators are signaling further efforts to advance rules for the digital asset industry after the long-awaited crypto Clarity Act stalled, according to reporting cited by Bitcoin Magazine. A vote on the bill is now expected in September. Bitcoin Magazine, citing Bloomberg, reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission is preparing to roll out initiatives this week to support the crypto industry. The SEC also plans to hold an open meeting Friday focused on creating a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. The Clarity Act was previously pursued as a near-term legislative goal, with pro-crypto lawmakers hoping it would pass before Congress departed for the August recess. After delays, lawmakers have continued work on a new draft of the bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives last year. Bitcoin Magazine also notes that the bill text previously addressed ethics provisions, including banning government officials from promoting or making money from crypto. It adds that the SEC and CFTC have taken a more pro-crypto posture since the White House changed hands, and that high-profile crypto lawsuits have been reduced under the Republican administration, compared with the period when Gary Gensler led the SEC under President Joe Biden.
