Singapore restaurant apologizes for cooking foraged seafood
Backlash followed a video linked to the restaurant that showed people collecting large quantities of marine life at Changi Beach.
Singapore Chinese restaurant Havelock Palace has apologized after being linked to cooking seafood that was foraged at Changi Beach, according to CNA and SCMP Economy.
The apology came weeks after the restaurant faced online criticism, including a wave of one-star Google reviews, tied to a video showing people foraging for marine life in large quantities, including crabs and clams, before bringing the catch to the restaurant to be cooked.
The incident triggered backlash toward both the foragers and Havelock Palace, and the group of foragers has since disbanded.
In a social media post, Member of Parliament Valerie Lee, responsible for the Changi division for Pasir Ris–Changi GRC, described the video as deplorable and said the issue was not only legality but also respect for animals, fragile ecosystems, and the traditions of ancient foragers.
