South Korea weighs Zelensky air defense request amid legal limits

Zelensky said North Korea could have 30,000 to 50,000 troops deployed on Russian territory, arguing Ukraine needs air defenses as the threat expands.

South Korea is weighing a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for air defence systems, a step that analysts say could challenge Seoul's legal and policy limits on arms transfers to countries at war and its own defence needs, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet reports Zelensky warned on social media that a decision has been made for 30,000 to 50,000 North Koreans to be deployed on Russian territory, a higher figure than his earlier estimate of 30,000 in July.

Zelensky said Ukraine would like support in the form of air defence systems, arguing North Korea is gaining battlefield experience from its involvement in the war and receiving advanced technology from Russia that could threaten Asian countries, SCMP Economy reported.

He added that Ukraine could offer help to South Korea with drone technology and other support in return.
