US House committee invites academics to allege jobs were taken by Chinese applicants
The House Select Committee on the US-China competition asked for first-hand information and supporting documentation via a whistle-blower email, prompting backlash over potential to heighten anti-Chinese sentiment.
A Republican-led House committee focused on US competition with China has posted a call for American students, postdoctoral researchers, and academics to come forward if they believe they were denied research or laboratory opportunities because preference was given to applicants from China, according to the SCMP Economy.
The House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party said people with first-hand information or supporting documentation should contact it through its whistle-blower email.
SCMP Economy reported that the appeal drew fierce backlash, with critics warning that singling out Chinese applicants could further fuel anti-Chinese sentiment.
