Barnes & Noble to open a new Chicago bookstore at 150 N State St

The retailer will take more than 20,000 square feet in a historic Loop building formerly used by Borders and later Old Navy.

Barnes & Noble plans to open a new bookstore in downtown Chicago on State Street in The Loop, at 150 N State Street, ConnectCRE reports. The location is in a historic building that was previously a flagship Borders bookstore and was more recently occupied by Old Navy.

The new store will span more than 20,000 square feet, according to ConnectCRE. Barnes & Noble said the opening will be its fourth new store in the Chicagoland area this year, joining locations in Skokie, Hyde Park, and Oak Park.

ConnectCRE reports that Barnes & Noble has more than 720 bookstores overall. James Daunt, the company CEO, said the company is restoring the building and that returning to The Loop reinforces its commitment to Chicago, where it has opened four new bookstores in the last year.
