China expands rare-earth science cooperation with Iran, including processing
The National Natural Science Foundation of China will fund each workshop with 30,000 yuan, or about $4,200, under a new program covering exploration and processing.
China is expanding its scientific collaboration with Iran in rare earths, including work tied to exploration and processing technologies, according to a program announced by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
The NSFC said the latest joint workshop programme with its Iranian counterpart, unveiled Monday, selected five cooperation areas and listed “exploration and processing of rare earth elements” among them.
The NSFC said it will provide 30,000 yuan, about US$4,200, for each workshop to cover expenses such as meetings, accommodation and domestic travel, while Iran National Science Foundation support would include international travel for Iranian participants and accommodation for Chinese researchers visiting Iran.
Rare earths, a set of 17 metals with unusual magnetic and electronic properties, are critical to modern defense and electronics, the outlet noted, including applications in missiles, fighter jets and radar systems.
