CN logs record 33.8 million tonnes of grain in 2025-26 crop year
The company said July volume hit 2.62 million tonnes, above the prior July record of 2.43 million tonnes set in 2020.
Canadian National Railway Co. (CN) said it moved a record 33.8 million tonnes of grain from Western Canada during the 2025-26 crop year, surpassing the prior peak of 31.2 million tonnes set in 2024-25, according to a company announcement Aug. 11.
CN attributed the year end performance to strong customer demand, close collaboration across the grain supply chain, and consistent execution of its operating plan, which it said helped unlock incremental capacity and value.
The record-setting year was supported by a strong finish in July, when CN moved 2.62 million tonnes of grain, topping the previous July record of 2.43 million tonnes set in 2020.
CN also recently unveiled its 2026-27 Grain Plan, outlining how it plans to prepare its network, resources, and operations to support the grain supply chain in the harvest ahead.
