Colombian rescuers pull woman alive from rubble after 7.4 quake

Authorities revised the earthquake death toll to 216 after earlier figures were corrected in Cali.

Colombian rescuers pulled a 32-year-old woman, Daniela Largo, alive from the rubble of a collapsed building after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, Agence France-Presse reported. The woman was carried out wrapped in a blue blanket as soldiers, firefighters, and volunteers continued searching for additional survivors.

Rescue efforts were focused on collapsed buildings across the region following the quake on Monday, the outlet said. Authorities revised the death toll down to 216 after local officials in Cali corrected earlier numbers.

In Pereira, her mother, Sandra Milena Perez, said the family had been losing hope until they received a call. She added that a nearby resident heard cries for help beneath the rubble and helped remove debris with neighbors before professional rescuers arrived, and that her 12-year-old son is waiting for her at home.
