Ethereum staking share rises toward 34% as protocol proposal targets rewards
Researchers filed EIP-8361 to taper issuance and burn an increasing share of validator rewards as staking participation increases.
Ethereum staking has climbed toward 34%, according to researchers referenced by The Block.
The rise is tied to a recently filed Ethereum Improvement Proposal, EIP-8361, which focuses on how new issuance is handled as more ETH is staked.
Under the proposed approach, a growing portion of validator rewards would be destroyed through a “tapered issuance burn,” with the intent of reducing issuance pressure as the staking ratio increases.
The Block said the proposal would also affect how ETH treasury firm yields and validator economics evolve alongside the higher staking share.
