GEAPS and IGP Institute offer hands-on conveyor training in Kansas
The Dec. 1-3 course combines pre-course online modules with onsite practice, covering distributors, screw and chain conveyors, belt conveyors, and bucket elevators.
The Grain Elevator and Processing Society, GEAPS, has partnered with the IGP Institute at Kansas State University to offer hands-on training focused on safely operating, maintaining and repairing conveying equipment used in grain facilities, according to World Grain.
Registration is open now for “Hands on Training for the Operation & Maintenance of Conveying Equipment,” which will run Dec. 1-3 onsite at the IGP Institute in Manhattan, Kansas. The two-and-a-half-day program blends instructor demonstrations, hands-on practice, and pre-course online modules, and it provides documents and reference materials for use after the event.
The training includes work with five types of conveying equipment, distributors; screw conveyors and bin sweeps; chain, or drag, conveyors; belt conveyors; and bucket elevators. World Grain reports that participants who complete the course will be able to install, operate and inspect conveying equipment, troubleshoot problems, and maintain it.
GEAPS said the course is designed for engineers, project managers, grain elevator operators, maintenance personnel, millwrights and safety professionals, and it also addresses how improper equipment use can affect grain quality and the safety practices needed to avoid costly downtime. Pricing is $1,800 for GEAPS members and $2,000 for nonmembers, with costs increasing on Nov. 4, according to World Grain.
