Iran centralizes military command in leadership reshuffle

According to OilPrice, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei decided to formalize six senior military and security postings within 48 hours, framing the move as the end of a period of improvised command after Israeli and US strikes killed much of Iran’s senior military leadership. The outlet said the scale of the vacancies is difficult to capture in a short list, citing the reported deaths of key commanders in the June 2025 12-day war and later strikes, including Mohammad Baqeri and his successor Abdolrahim Musavi. OilPrice also described how, for about five months after those deaths, coordination defaulted to the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, then run by Ali Abdollahi, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps faced a parallel pattern of leadership turnover before the latest formal appointments.
