Iran says no talks on extending US-Iran ceasefire for now

The report also said the US Dollar Index was steady around 99.9 with no immediate FX reaction to the remarks.

Iranian officials said there are currently no discussions about extending a US-Iran ceasefire, according to a senior Iranian source cited by Reuters. From Iran’s perspective, there is no ceasefire start date, so there is nothing to extend.

The same Reuters account says the US violated the interim pact about 48 hours after it was reached and later withdrew from it. Another issue reportedly under discussion is the US returning to a memorandum of understanding and defining a time frame for implementing its commitments.

Reuters added that there was no immediate reaction in the US Dollar following the Iranian remarks. At press time, the US Dollar Index, DXY, was trading flat around 99.85.

The piece also notes how FX can move in so-called risk-on versus risk-off periods, with safe-haven currencies such as the US dollar typically benefiting when markets turn risk-off.
