US-China Board of Investment unlikely for next Washington summit

The US-China Business Council head said neither side has started consultation with private-sector firms for the next meeting.

The US-China Board of Investment, identified as a key outcome from the May Trump-Xi summit, is unlikely to be delivered ahead of the next scheduled meeting in Washington next month, according to the head of the US-China Business Council, Sean Stein.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Stein said there was no evidence the board would become a sizable deliverable for the upcoming summit, adding that both the US and Chinese sides have not yet initiated a consultation process.

Stein said it appears neither side is ready to hold discussions with the private sector, suggesting the effort is still pending even as the next face-to-face talks approach.
