US launches task force to prevent birth tourism and revokes visas

The State Department said the new Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force has revoked more than 600 visas worldwide, including over 100 tied to a North Africa region embassy.

The Trump administration announced the creation of a Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force aimed at ending birth tourism after the US Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to limit birthright citizenship, according to SCMP Economy.

SCMP Economy reports the US State Department said it will work alongside the Department of Homeland Security and use all available tools to protect the integrity of US citizenship and prevent non-immigrant visas from being exploited for birth tourism.

The administration said the task force has revoked more than 600 visas from foreign nationals worldwide, including revocations linked to embassies in the North Africa region, where more than 100 visas were reportedly canceled.

The State Department also outlined the broader goal of ensuring non-immigrant visas are used only for their lawful and intended purposes, while blocking birth tourism activity, SCMP Economy reported.
