US sets up task force to end birth tourism and revokes visas

The State Department says the Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force has revoked more than 600 visas worldwide, with over 100 revocations tied to actions by a North Africa US embassy.

The Trump administration announced the creation of a Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force aimed at curbing birth tourism, according to a fact sheet from the US State Department. The move is presented as a follow-on to efforts to restrict birthright citizenship that faced a setback after the Supreme Court rejected the administration’s attempt.

The task force will work alongside the Department of Homeland Security, with the State Department saying it is using all available tools to protect the integrity of US citizenship and prevent exploitation of non-immigrant visas.

The administration also disclosed that the task force has revoked more than 600 visas from foreign nationals worldwide. It further said that more than 100 visas were revoked by a US embassy in the North Africa region in connection with the practice.
