Bitcoin Red Team uses Chinese AI models to scan for code flaws
The group said developers have confirmed numerous critical and high severity vulnerabilities, and it previously filed 4,962 findings across 390 projects, including 85 rated critical and 635 high.
The Bitcoin Red Team is using Chinese AI models to scan the Bitcoin open source ecosystem for security vulnerabilities, according to Decrypt. Pseudonymous developer and Red Team lead Calle said the volunteer group combines AI tooling with human review to examine wallets, Lightning applications, software libraries, and other Bitcoin projects. Calle said researchers privately report credible findings to developers so fixes can happen before technical details are publicly released. They warned that unmaintained projects should not be trusted and said response speed varies by project, which they described as a sign of how healthy each project is. The team has conducted broad coverage, Calle said it has completed a basic scan of virtually the entirety of Bitcoin open source, with the “low hanging fruit” already addressed. Decrypt also notes Calle described progress as slow and painful. Calle said developers confirmed “a ton of real critical and high vulnerabilities,” but the group has not named the affected projects or released technical details. The Red Team previously reported filing 4,962 findings across 390 projects in August, including 85 rated critical and 635 rated high severity.
