Dogecoin futures open interest jumps near $1.21B as price slips

Open interest in DOGE futures rose from about $930M in late June to roughly $1.21B, while long positions outnumber shorts on Binance and OKX.

Dogecoin is trading near 7 cents after falling nearly 70% over the past year, but CoinDesk reports that speculative activity in DOGE futures has surged back toward October 2025 levels.

According to CoinGlass data cited by CoinDesk, open interest in DOGE futures climbed to about $1.21 billion from roughly $930 million in late June. Measured in coins rather than dollars, open interest has nearly rebuilt to around 17.18 billion DOGE, just below the 17.78 billion seen in October 2025, despite the token trading far lower than it did then.

CoinDesk also points to positioning on major exchanges. On Binance, more than three accounts held long DOGE futures positions for every one holding short positions, while on OKX the long-to-short ratio was above five to one.

That setup can raise the risk of forced liquidation if DOGE falls further, CoinDesk notes. When leveraged bets lose collateral, exchanges can automatically close positions, which can add selling pressure as multiple liquidations occur.
