ether.fi expands self-custody app with fiat accounts, loans, and tokenized assets

The decentralized platform said new fiat accounts will support more than 30 currencies and payment methods, while tokenized stocks and metals are limited for U.S. users.

Ether.fi, the Ethereum staking-focused DeFi platform, is expanding its self-custodial app with tokenized asset trading, portfolio-backed loans, and fiat accounts, the company said Thursday. The update adds an integrated market that routes lending and borrowing through Aave on Optimism, allowing users to lend assets, borrow against their portfolios without selling holdings, and send or spend proceeds.

Ether.fi said the app will let users trade tokenized stocks, metals, and crypto assets, with an initial lineup that includes Ethereum, Bitcoin, Hyperliqud, and ETHFI, its native governance token. The platform also said tokenized stocks and metals are not available to U.S. users and certain other markets, while other assets and tokenized real-world assets are part of the rollout.

On the fiat side, Ether.fi said deposits and withdrawals will be supported worldwide through new fiat accounts, with more than 30 currencies and payment methods covered. Access requires users to complete identity checks tied to its payment card, and deposit and withdrawal speeds can vary, according to the company.

Ether.fi also introduced automated buybacks of ETHFI and said it offers 3% cash back on card purchases. The platform reported it has more than 500,000 members and a $2 billion annual transaction run rate, and it framed the expansion as a way to bring DeFi tools into everyday banking needs.
