GIC Re profit and premium income rise in Q1 ended June 30, 2026
The reinsurer’s incurred claims ratio improved to 85.0% in the quarter, and its combined ratio eased to 104.9% from 106.9% a year earlier.
General Insurance Corporation of India, or GIC Re, reported higher profit after tax and gross premium income for its first quarter ended June 30, 2026, with profit after tax rising to ₹1,922.0 crore from ₹1,752.2 crore in the same quarter a year earlier.
The reinsurer said gross premium income increased to ₹13,475.4 crore, compared with ₹12,388.0 crore in Q1 2026, while the incurred claims ratio improved to 85.0% from 90.4%.
GIC Re also noted that its underwriting loss narrowed 20.3% to ₹723.9 crore, and that its combined ratio declined to 104.9% from 106.9%.
Total assets grew 5.2% to ₹2,07,789.9 crore as of June 30, 2026, according to Reinsurance News, which described GIC Re as the largest reinsurer in India’s domestic reinsurance market.
