Mecca defense pact links Saudi, Turkey, and Pakistan in shared defense

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Mecca defence agreement, which the SCMP Economy describes as a structural overhaul of the region’s security architecture.
According to SCMP Economy, the pact codifies a shared commitment under which an armed attack on one signatory is treated as an assault on all.
The outlet adds that the Mecca pact differs from the transatlantic security model by operating more like a flexible, transactional coalition, with no permanent bureaucratic headquarters and instead relying on state-to-state defence integration, intelligence sharing, and defence-industrial co-development.
