Metaplanet denies selling 5,014 BTC after large transfer

The company said the move involved a routine custody transfer between its addresses, and it still holds 43,000 BTC.

Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed digital asset treasury firm, denied reports that it was selling bitcoin worth about $320 million after a large BTC transfer appeared on-chain. CoinDesk reports that CEO Simon Gerovich said the firm has not sold any bitcoin and continues to hold 43,000 BTC.

Gerovich said Metaplanet transferred 5,014 BTC between its custodial addresses over the past 24 hours, describing it as routine custody operations rather than liquidation. Data tracking firms flagged the movement of 5,014 BTC, valued at roughly $320 million at the spot price, from wallets linked to the company.

The denial comes as investors closely watch major corporate bitcoin holders for signs of trimming positions to manage balance sheet risk or lock in gains. CoinDesk notes that other firms in the sector, including Strategy, have faced similar scrutiny as they fund activities such as preferred dividends, repurchases, and replenishing dollar reserves.

Metaplanet’s stance directly addresses speculation that the transfer signaled an impending sale, with the company emphasizing that its overall bitcoin holdings remain unchanged at 43,000 BTC.
