Suspicious rail object in Bavaria found to lack explosives

German police said nearby buildings were evacuated while a robot moved the item, and the incident follows heightened security concerns after a suspected drone attack on Leipzig airport.

German police said on Thursday that a suspicious object found on rail tracks in Treuchtlingen, a Bavarian town, did not contain explosives as initially feared, Reuters reported.

Earlier that day, buildings near the object were evacuated as authorities prepared to move it safely using a robot, while experts took X-ray images and police cordoned off the area, Reuters said.

Authorities have been on edge for more than a week after an attempted drone attack on Leipzig airport in eastern Germany, where an unmanned aerial device loaded with explosives was found near a runway, Reuters added.

Treuchtlingen has a population of around 12,000 people and is located about 150 km northwest of Munich.
