Thailand weighs BrahMos missile purchase amid rising tensions with Cambodia
The reported interest follows the 10th Thailand-India Defence Dialogue in Bangkok in June, where both sides pledged to deepen defense manufacturing cooperation.
Thailand is evaluating a potential purchase of India’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles as it looks to upgrade its military capabilities, according to analysts cited by SCMP Economy.
The proposed system is expected to help Thailand defend its interests against Cambodia and could intensify competitive military dynamics between the two neighbors as tensions persist and regional navies modernize, the outlet said.
SCMP Economy reports the BrahMos missile is designed for launch from ships, submarines, aircraft, or land-based platforms, which can give a navy options to complicate an adversary’s operations near coastlines, choke points, and disputed waters.
