UK economic growth slows to 0.4% in April to June

The Office for National Statistics said services drove growth, while some firms pointed to good weather and sporting events boosting activity in June.

UK economic growth slowed to 0.4% between April and June, according to official data compiled by the Office for National Statistics. The result matched economists' expectations and was below the 0.6% expansion recorded in the first three months of the year.

The ONS said the services sector helped propel growth in the second quarter, while manufacturing also grew. ONS added that some businesses reported that good weather and sporting events may have had a positive effect in June.

The report highlighted that the men's football World Cup began in mid-June and boosted customers at hospitality venues showing matches.
