UK Q2 preliminary GDP prints 0.4% and misses little, GBP holds steady
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.3495 even as June monthly GDP rose to 0.3% and industrial production and manufacturing production contracted.
UK preliminary GDP data showed the UK economy expanded 0.4% quarter over quarter in the three months to June 2026, matching expectations and following 0.6% growth in Q1, according to FXStreet. Annual growth was 1.2% year over year versus 1.1% expected, and the monthly GDP figure rose to 0.3% in June after 0% in May (May was revised from 0.1%).
Other releases pointed to softness beneath the headline, with industrial production declining 0.2% month over month in June and manufacturing production falling 0.5% month over month, both weaker than market expectations, FXStreet reported. Forexlive said the Q2 increase was broadly supported by services output, which rose 0.5%, alongside construction growth of 0.3%.
Despite the mixed read, the British pound did not show a clear reaction in FX trading. FXStreet said GBP/USD was up 0.01% on the day to trade at 1.3495 at the time of writing, and noted that preliminary GDP figures can still be revised in the following months.
