Alphabet stake in SpaceX valued at about $94 billion after IPO
Alphabet reported it held 551.2 million SpaceX shares as of June 30, worth about $94.2 billion at that date’s share price.
Alphabet disclosed that its early investment in SpaceX, first made in 2015, has grown to a stake worth about $94 billion following SpaceX’s June IPO, according to LiveMint Markets citing Reuters analysis of quarterly filings.
The filing showed Alphabet held 551.2 million SpaceX shares at the end of the second quarter, valuing the position at about $94.2 billion based on SpaceX’s June 30 share price of $170.86.
LiveMint Markets also noted the IPO made Alphabet by far the largest single institutional holder of SpaceX, with other early backers including Fidelity Investments, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, and Hancock Prospecting also set to reveal holdings after the listing.
The outlet added that 13F filings are compiled once per quarter and disclosed within six weeks, meaning the data is dated and may not reflect any buying or selling after June 30, and it does not show lockup status or investors’ profit-taking intentions.
