Dollar slips as Latvia issues air threat alert near Russia border

DXY was down 0.05% on the day at $99.90, even as NATO jets were reported deployed in the region.

Latvian officials activated an air threat alert in the southeastern part of the country near the borders with Russia and Belarus, and NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission was reported to have deployed fighter jets, according to Reuters cited by FXStreet.

Finland, which also borders Russia, announced temporary restrictions on aviation and maritime traffic in the eastern Gulf of Finland, according to the same report.

In FX market terms, the report notes that “risk off” conditions typically support safe havens like the US dollar, but the US dollar index, DXY, was still down 0.05% on the day at $99.90 at the time of writing.
