MS Amlin profit rises to £61m as combined ratio improves

MS Amlin said its combined ratio fell to 87.7% in Q1 2026 from 92.6% a year earlier, driven by a lower loss ratio.

MS Amlin, a global specialty commercial insurance and reinsurance provider and part of MS&AD, reported IFRS 17 financial results for Q1 2026, covering April through June, showing net income of £61 million.

The company said net income rose £21 million year on year. Insurance revenue increased by £29 million, or 6.0% year on year, to £487 million, supported by growth in new business and higher renewals, even as some lines softened.

MS Amlin’s net financial result improved by £4 million year on year to £29 million, as investment gains of £35 million were partially offset by insurance finance losses of £6 million.

The firm highlighted that its combined ratio strengthened from 92.6% in Q1 2025 to 87.7% in Q1 2026, with the loss ratio dropping to 55.6% from 63.3%. MS&AD attributed the improvement to favorable attritional losses and the absence of natural catastrophe losses, which it said offset losses related to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
