SEC cancels meeting on proposed crypto offering rules
The SEC had planned to review a potential tailored offering regime for certain crypto investment contracts, but the meeting was moved due to an unforeseen scheduling issue.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission canceled an open meeting scheduled for Friday that was expected to review proposed new rules for cryptocurrency offerings, the agency said Thursday. The SEC previously indicated the session would cover whether it should propose a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets, according to the account of the agency’s communications.
Cointelegraph reports that the SEC told Reuters the meeting was delayed due to an unforeseen scheduling issue. The SEC did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment.
The cancellation comes as the Senate headed into its August recess without voting on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, also described as the CLARITY Act, which would provide a broader regulatory framework for the crypto industry.
Cointelegraph also notes that SEC Chair Paul Atkins said in late July that the agency was ready to issue digital asset rules if the CLARITY Act did not pass.
