Alphabet’s SpaceX stake tops $94 billion after $900 million bet

The investment grew from about $900 million in 2015 to roughly $94.2 billion, while Nvidia disclosed a nearly $21 billion stake as SpaceX expands its AI business and infrastructure.

Alphabet’s early investment in Elon Musk’s SpaceX has grown more than 100-fold, with the company valuing its stake at around $94 billion as of the end of June, according to a filing cited by LiveMint Markets. The disclosure says Alphabet invested $900 million in SpaceX in 2015, and held 551.2 million SpaceX shares at the end of the second quarter. Those shares were worth about $94.2 billion at SpaceX’s June 30 share price of $170.86. Nvidia also revealed a major position in SpaceX, disclosing that it held about 122.8 million shares worth nearly $21 billion as of June 30, according to regulatory filings referenced by LiveMint Markets. The stake comes from Nvidia’s earlier investment tied to Musk’s xAI, which was later merged into SpaceX ahead of a planned public debut. SpaceX’s AI expansion is also a focus, with the story pointing to 247% revenue growth in the AI segment in the second quarter, driven in part by cloud services deals with Alphabet and Anthropic. Musk said on a recent earnings call that SpaceX will use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin NVL723 AI systems both in space and on Earth, and will partner with Nvidia on an AI satellite computing system called Starmind AI1.
