DJI wins a new chance to challenge Pentagon blacklist designation

A US appeals court did not remove DJI, but sent the case back to reconsider part of the Defense Department’s justification for listing the Shenzhen drone maker.

A US appeal court on Friday gave Chinese drone maker DJI another chance to challenge its inclusion on a Pentagon blacklist of companies alleged to be linked to the Chinese military, according to SCMP Economy.

The court did not delist DJI, it sent the matter back to a lower court to reconsider one portion of the Defense Department’s reasoning for the designation, while the Pentagon declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.

DJI, a Shenzhen-based drone maker, has been in a years-long legal fight with the US Department of Defense to be removed from the list and has repeatedly said it has no ties to the Chinese military.

DJI was first placed on the Pentagon’s Chinese military company list in 2022 after the company petitioned the Defense Department for delisting and later sued over its designation.
