Rubio rebukes Delcy Rodriguez over tribute to Fidel Castro
Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez’s tribute to Fidel Castro has drawn a sharp rebuke from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, underscoring political friction as Caracas seeks a rapprochement with Washington while China works to protect its economic interests in Venezuela, according to SCMP Economy.
Rodriguez marked the centenary of Castro’s birth by praising him as a figure who “transcends time,” and cited his commitment to sovereignty, social justice, and Latin American unity.
Rubio responded sharply in a post on social media, saying Castro was a “complete failure” except for what he characterized as destroying Cuba and impoverishing, jailing, and murdering his own people.
