Trump dismisses complaints about conditions on Abraham Lincoln carrier
He said the USS Abraham Lincoln, now in its ninth month, is set to be swapped out soon as the US remains in a stalemate with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear program.
President Donald Trump dismissed concerns about living conditions and service members’ mental health aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed against Iran, and he said the situation is not causing worry among families, according to the South China Morning Post. Asked by reporters whether family members were concerned, Trump said “no, they’re not,” while also rejecting claims that the ship had been at sea too long.
Trump said the carrier is due to be replaced shortly with another aircraft carrier, describing the swap as the Lincoln being “replaced with another very similar ship.” He tied the deployment to broader US-Iran tensions, noting the United States remains locked in a stalemate with Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program.
The outlet reports that US media, including specialist military publications, have quoted relatives of crew members who described deteriorating living conditions on the Lincoln. The report also says there have been media accounts of several suicide attempts.
