DefiLlama delays mobile launch after Apple removes phishing apps

DefiLlama said it waited for the fake impersonation apps to be removed to avoid users being scammed, after documenting a small wallet being drained.

Cointelegraph reports that DefiLlama delayed its mobile app launch after Apple removed phishing apps from the App Store that impersonated the analytics provider.

According to DefiLlama’s pseudonymous founder, 0xngmi, the company spent months trying to get Apple to take down the malicious listings before launching its own app.

The founder said DefiLlama waited until the fake apps were removed to reduce the risk of users getting scammed, adding that Apple took down one malicious app within days after DefiLlama downloaded it and documented a small wallet being drained.

Cointelegraph also notes prior instances of fake crypto brand apps in major app stores, including a 2024 example impersonating Rabby wallet and Curve Finance, and a November 2023 fake Ledger Live app that led to $588,000 stolen across 38 transactions.
