Bitcoin Core v32 feature freeze set for Aug. 20

The v32 queue lists 17 open items as of Aug. 17, with maintainers moving the release line to bug fixes and ending the normal window for new v32 features.

Bitcoin Core, the main client for running a Bitcoin node, is scheduled to enter its v32 feature freeze on Thursday, Aug. 20, after which only bug fixes and release administration remain in the normal v32 pipeline, according to CryptoSlate.

CryptoSlate says the v32 milestone had 17 items open and 79 closed on Aug. 17, putting the work at about 82 percent complete. The open items include feature pull requests, bug reports, build and logging work, a private-broadcast test failure, and the release-schedule ticket itself, and the platform does not publish a blocker ranking for the queue.

As part of the freeze process, source-language translation strings will also freeze on Aug. 20. Maintainers plan to split the 32.x branch and issue v32.0rc1 on Sept. 10, with the target date for tagging v32.0 set for Oct. 10.

The freeze also changes what can still enter v32, with feature pull requests that miss the Aug. 20 cutoff moving beyond the normal v32 route. CryptoSlate notes two open changes labeled “Needs rebase,” meaning the patches no longer apply cleanly, and it highlights wallet-related compatibility work, including a descriptor-wallet fix to preserve access to existing Miniscript wallets when recomputed descriptor identifiers differ, following a reported upgrade-related load failure.
