Bitcoin tops $64,000 amid thin trading that analysts call a liquidity illusion

Bitcoin is rebounding after support near $62,700, while implied volatility has fallen and several major exchanges show funding moving toward negative territory.

Bitcoin climbed above $64,000, but analysts warned the move is unfolding in thin trading conditions, raising questions about whether the rally is sustainable. Yahoo Finance highlighted that crypto trading activity has dropped sharply from prior peaks, and Bitcoin is now trading in one of its narrowest ranges in months.

Crypto analyst 10x Research, via an X post, pointed to a shift in trader conviction reflected in options flow and a notable drop in implied volatility, which has fallen to levels rarely seen outside the summer lull. The note also cited weak ETF inflows, stablecoins continuing to off-ramp, and Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) acting as a net seller over the past month.

Onchain analytics from CryptoQuant found funding rates across several major exchanges have moved toward negative territory. Binance, Bybit, OKX and Deribit all recorded weaker funding conditions, a setup that can indicate short positions are becoming more prominent and vulnerable to a squeeze.

CryptoQuant said the recent sharp price moves in either direction resemble short term liquidity sweeps rather than a sustained organic trend, and it flagged the $65,000 area as an important resistance level. The reporting also said AI-related venture deal concentration is rising, with AI megadeals accounting for 87.5% of U.S. venture funding in the first half of 2026, while crypto allocation remains selective.
