German court convicts Ukrainian man tied to Russian sabotage plot
The Stuttgart court sentenced the man to one year and three months, and said he was arrested in Switzerland in May 2025 before being extradited to Germany in December.
A German court in Stuttgart sentenced a 30-year-old Ukrainian man to one year and three months for spying for Russia and helping prepare possible sabotage acts, Agence France-Presse reports.
The court said the broader plot involved posting test packages with GPS trackers in March of the prior year to Ukraine, a step intended to assess possibilities for disrupting transport and infrastructure, and it found the operation was directed by a Russian state entity.
The court acquitted two other Ukrainian men, aged 22 and 25, who were also on trial over the same plot.
The outlet added that the convicted man, Yevhen Bezchasnyi, was arrested in Switzerland in May 2025 and extradited to Germany in December, and that time served in pre-trial detention counted toward the sentence so he will now be released.
