Midstream firms kept equity buybacks steady in 2Q26
Cheniere Energy was the top buyer, spending $550 million in 2Q26 and bringing its repurchase authorization to over $10 billion through 2030.
ETF Trends said quarterly equity repurchases for midstream MLPs and related corporations stayed healthy in 2Q26, broadly matching first-quarter levels.
For 2Q26, seven constituents of the broad Alerian Midstream Energy Index (AMNA) repurchased a total of $856 million in equity, compared with $818 million across six names in 1Q26, with Cheniere leading at $550 million.
Cheniere’s board approved an incremental $9 billion share repurchase authorization in February, lifting its total authorization to more than $10 billion through 2030. ETF Trends also noted that buybacks complemented dividend growth as a primary way these companies return cash to shareholders.
Other AMNA constituents included Enterprise Products Partners with $159 million in repurchases and MPLX with $50 million in common units during 2Q26, while Targa Resources and Antero Midstream bought back $80 million and $8 million, respectively. ETF Trends added that Rockpoint Gas Storage Inc reported its first buyback activity since its IPO in October, following approval for an initial Normal Course Issuer Bid in late March.
