Putin meets Myanmar leader, discusses oil refinery and LNG supply
Putin said Russia is in talks with Myanmar on building an oil refinery and expanding hydrocarbon production, exploration, and potential LNG supplies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Moscow with Myanmar’s president Min Aung Hlaing, discussing prospective energy deals alongside other areas of cooperation, Reuters reported.
Putin said the talks include a potential oil refinery in Myanmar, along with work on hydrocarbon production and exploration, including on Myanmar’s continental shelf.
He added that Russia was also in discussions regarding supplies of Russian liquefied natural gas to Myanmar, including for onward transit to other countries.
The meeting also highlighted deepening ties between the countries as Min Aung Hlaing faces extensive Western sanctions, Reuters said, and Russia was described as the first non-neighboring country he has visited since taking office in April.
