Treasury proposes rules to restrict legal stablecoin sales in the US

The proposed framework would require stablecoin sellers and intermediaries to follow new conditions for US customers starting in 2027.

The US Treasury has proposed new rules that would define which entities are allowed to legally sell stablecoins to customers in the United States, according to Decrypt.

Under the proposal, exchanges and other crypto platforms would face new restrictions on stablecoin sales to US customers beginning in 2027.

The guidance is aimed at tightening how stablecoins can be offered in the US market, with compliance obligations focused on who can act as a seller or intermediary.
