Israel to open probes into Gaza killings of Hind Rajab and aid workers

The probes follow earlier findings by the IDF’s Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism, after prior incidents including the deaths of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in April 2024.

Israel’s military will open internal investigations into the killings in Gaza of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab in January 2024 and 15 emergency and aid workers in March 2025, it said. The announcement comes after reviews by the IDF’s Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism, according to Reuters.

In its Wednesday decisions, the military also addressed five incidents involving Palestinian deaths. It said the April 2024 killings of seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen would not trigger a criminal investigation, citing “no reasonable suspicion of criminal misconduct” that would justify such action.

Rights groups have criticized the track record of criminal misconduct investigations into Israeli troops in similar cases, saying prosecutions rarely result in convictions. Yesh Din said nearly zero indictments are served relative to complaint counts, and that when convictions do occur, it believes sentences are often lenient compared with the alleged severity of the offenses.
