Michigan State professor wins Borlaug CAST Communication Award

The Borlaug CAST Communication Award honors scientists who effectively communicate agricultural science and technology to non technical audiences.

A Michigan State University professor, Karimbhai M. Maredia, has received the Borlaug CAST Communication Award (BCCA), which recognizes work aimed at bringing agricultural science and technology to non technical audiences, according to World Grain.

The award is named in honor of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and credited as the father of the Green Revolution. Maredia has spent more than 35 years building science communication programs in international agriculture.

WorldTAP, the World Knowledge and Technology Access Program, is central to his role as director, with his work described as reaching more than 60 countries to share knowledge, information, and new technologies with the global agricultural community.

The article says he has authored 130 papers, policy briefs, and book chapters, and that his efforts have been supported by organizations including USAID, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Bank, and the Gates Foundation.
