Retail earnings week begins with signals on consumer spending

FactSet data shows S&P 500 second-quarter earnings are on pace to rise 50.0% year over year, the highest growth rate since 2021.

Yahoo Finance previewed the late stage of the second-quarter earnings season, pointing to the upcoming wave of results from major retailers as investors gauge consumer health.

The outlet noted that Home Depot and Lowe's results showed shoppers still spending, but shifting toward smaller projects amid geopolitical concerns and inflation.

Yahoo Finance also highlighted that Target delivered another large earnings beat ahead of Walmart's results, keeping attention on whether consumption momentum can hold as the quarter winds down.

It added that FactSet data has S&P 500 companies’ second-quarter earnings on track for 50.0% year-over-year growth, with artificial intelligence cited as a key driver of the broader earnings strength.
