Danone takeover of Huel clears UK competition watchdog
The €1bn deal, reviewed by the UK Competition and Markets Authority, remains subject to final completion.
Danone said the UK Competition and Markets Authority has cleared its takeover of Huel, giving approval to a €1bn (£864m) deal after a regulatory review, BBC Business reports.
BBC Business adds that Huel, a Hertfordshire-based meal supplement maker founded in 2015 by Julian Hearn, plans to use the acquisition to support its brand growth ambitions and international expansion.
Danone said the purchase will help it grow in the nutritional sector, framing Huel as a complement to its functional nutrition portfolio, which includes UK brands such as Aptamil and Cow and Gate, Activia and Actimel, and Evian and Volvic.
The transaction, Danone noted, is still subject to final completion.
