Harbro buys Cargill feed business in Scotland and expands UK capacity

The acquisition adds products including pellets, concentrates, premixes, minerals, specialties, and supplements, with integration of systems and processes expected by early 2027.

Scotland-based Harbro has acquired Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health’s business in Dalton, North Yorkshire, which includes a feed manufacturing plant and associated operations. The deal, announced Aug. 19, is intended to extend Harbro’s growth strategy by widening its product offering and strengthening its supply chain, while adding expertise across species, manufacturing, innovation, and animal performance, according to World Grain.

Harbro said Cargill’s Dalton operation makes pellets, concentrates, premixes and minerals, specialties, and supplements, with a manufacturing facility focused on people, quality, compliance, and operational excellence. Harbro added it will continue to invest in the site and workforce to maintain standards around quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and nutritional leadership.

Nutrition, innovation, and technology are central to the combined plan, World Grain reported. Harbro will continue operating the Dalton business as a separate company while it integrates systems and processes, which it expects to be completed by early 2027.

The transaction also follows Harbro’s scale, with World Grain noting the company has manufacturing capacity of 280,000 t and that it trades across the UK and has developed a growing export market through its international division.
