Texicare expands San Antonio network with CHRISTUS Health providers

The Texicare health affiliate of Texas Mutual said the CHRISTUS deal adds 96 providers and 29 clinics in Bexar and Comal counties, effective August 15, as it scales beyond Texas workers' comp ties.

Texicare, the health affiliate of Texas Mutual, has signed a network agreement with CHRISTUS Health to expand its San Antonio offering, adding 96 providers and 29 clinic locations across Bexar and Comal counties effective August 15, according to Insurance Business.

The expanded network is set to cover primary care, emergency services, cardiology, orthopedics, neuroscience, pediatrics, and women's health. Texicare entered San Antonio in October 2025 and is now operating in eight Texas markets including Lubbock, Amarillo, Midland, Odessa, Houston, El Paso, San Angelo, and San Antonio.

Texas Mutual has approved $300 million in total funding for Texicare as it rolls out. The plan was created to extend Texas Mutual's presence into health coverage, after the Texas Legislature directed the workers' compensation insurer in 2021 to investigate health plan options for small businesses, with the board approving Texicare’s creation the following year.

Insurance Business notes the expansion comes as Texicare works to reduce practical friction on the health side, where providers may be receptive but not always familiar with the insurance card. In a January interview cited by the outlet, Texicare CEO Meredith Duncan said provider familiarity is still developing and that adding a well known San Antonio system like CHRISTUS is intended to support more confident referral conversations at the point of care.
