Alliant hires healthcare executive to expand employee benefits team
The move comes as broker hiring accelerates amid rising health benefit costs, and Alliant posted $5.72 billion in brokerage revenue in 2025.
Health benefit costs are expected to rise at their sharpest pace in over a decade, and brokers are responding by expanding staffing, Insurance Business reports. Alliant Insurance Services is among the latest firms to add talent to its employee benefits group, appointing Elsje Johnson as vice president.
Johnson is Idaho-based and brings more than 25 years of healthcare experience, the outlet said. Prior to joining Alliant, she worked at a major health insurance carrier, where she handled business development for large national accounts.
The hire reflects a broader pattern at Alliant, which has made several additions to the same division this year, according to Insurance Business. The article points to a Hartford study, citing that 73% of HR professionals reported increased workload and 64% said managing multiple carriers is difficult.
Insurance Business also links the competition for broker talent to employer priorities shifting toward cost reduction. It notes that UNICO added both a benefits advisor and a risk advisor, and cites Lockton's 2026 National Benefits Survey showing 54% of employers prioritizing cost reduction in benefits decisions, up from 38% the prior year, while the share naming talent retention fell to 19%.
