US-Canada energy trade value falls in 2025 despite higher gas and power
Natural gas and electricity trade value rose slightly in 2025, driven by higher natural gas prices and greater trade volume.
U.S.-Canada energy trade totaled an estimated $137 billion in 2025, down 11% from the prior year, according to EIA data citing U.S. Census Bureau figures.
The decline reflected a lower overall energy trade value, even as the trade value of natural gas and electricity between the two countries increased slightly.
EIA said the uptick in natural gas and electricity was primarily driven by higher natural gas prices and an increase in trade volume.
